12.21.2012 A Few More Days To Go.

The end of the Mayan Calender is coming in less then 15 days, will it be the end ? or will it be another Y2K fail ?

my take on it is that no one knows when the end will be. It will happen when we lest expect it.

I'm not saying something won't happen that day, it's just that from the things I've seen the last few years we don't have much time left with the way things are going around the world. My understanding is that after that day (21st of December) and everyone moves on that's when something could happen when everyone isn't paying attention it usually happens that way.

It just seems like the beginning of sorrows have begun and were at the very edge of the 7 year Tribulation period beginning.

That being said.

I'm pretty sure he'll be back in my lifetime and I'm 29years old. The key being Israel they have the land back and that was the start (1947). He said the generation that seen them come back would live to see his return and were coming up on 70 years since. The Jewish calendar year currently is 5774.

All I know is that when he does come back. It'll be when we lest expect him.

let's look at all the things that have happened in the last few years.

(list isn't complete as things are still occurring )

  • The water is still turning blood red last place was Australia and still sea animals are dieing en mass world wide.
  • There's been strange sounds heard around the world, mass animal deaths, large destructive earthquakes, rivers and lakes turning red like blood. just to name a few things I've been watching and then Israel especially They are back in the land given to them by God after being exiled for nearly 2000 years.
  • The fact that Damascus, Syria is on the verge of being destroyed is also key in play.
Here is a recent video that I believe shows how it really is, the strange part to me is how everyone seems to ignore the signs or just doesn't care.
Whether or not you believe, Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
We ALL will stand before him on that day and will have to give an account for our every idle word.
Time is Running Out.

Mountain House New Orleans Style Rice with Shrimp and Ham Review

I just tried the Mountain House New Orleans Style Rice with Shrimp and Ham.

I didn't like it.  I won't be ordering this one again.
To me it didn't taste even close to New Orleans style food.
Following the directions exactly the food didn't rehydrate enough.
Allowing 3 extra minutes to soak up more water helped, but still not totally re hydrated.
The shrimp were tiny, similar to shrimp in romaine noodles.
Ham was diced, which is fine, but was a bit bland in my opinion, plus didn't soak in enough water.
Rice came out good.

So this was, for me at least, a rare miss by Mountain House.  I like that they are trying new dishes, but this one not going to be in my food storage supply.

Nissin Cup Noodles Ramen Review

The tried and true staple of collage students across the country and world for that matter is the cup of Ramen Noodles.

My personal favorite is the Beef flavored cup noodles by Nissin.

in my area you can buy 2 boxes of 6 cups for $2.00. That's a good deal I couldn't pass up so I bought 4 boxes for $8.00 to add to my supply of food. Each cup takes about 2 cups of boiling hot water to make, so that is another thing you'll have to stock up on is plenty of water.

That's a total of 24 cups of instant noodles. My only complaint is it has way too much salt but hey if it's the end of the world and you are doing what you can to survive then you're not going to care about high salt content when you maybe going a few days between meals (stretching out you're supply if needed).

You can see their web sight here nissinfoods.com for a selection of the offers and decide if you want to stock up on bulk noodles for you and your family.

Hurricane Sandy / Nor'easter 2012

Make sure you have all the necessary supplies for emergencies.

Secure any and all loose items outside your house.

The winds may not be strong enough to break a window but flying debris will defiantly break glass. That means take down wind chimes, bird feeders, bring in trashcans, move plants inside, secure patio furniture, etc. Anything left outdoors can and will become a projectile. If items are too large to be brought inside, secure them the best you can. Ask you neighbors to do the same so their items do not blow through your windows.

Freeze jugs of water. Then you will have block ice to keep food cold and after the jugs melt, you have drinking water. Once the power goes off, move jugs of frozen water from the freezer into the fridge and keep the fridge door closed as much as possible. You can also move the jugs into a cooler filled with drinks to minimize opening the fridge. Remember, if your power is off, the corner store will not have ice either.
The refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened. A full freezer will hold the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half-full) if the door remains closed. If your freezer is not full, fill it up with everything you can think of before the power goes off, i.e. water bottles, jugs of milk, even newspapers to fill in empty space.

If you run out of drinking water, everyone who has a hot water heater has access to 40 or so gallons of clean water. Simply drain the water from your hot water heater via the valve on the front. Also, if you have a washer in your home, fill the washer with water, when it starts the wash cycle, turn the washer off and you have gallons and gallons of fresh drinking water. Filling the bathtub is also a good idea.
30 or 40 gallon plastic trash cans are a good place to store large amounts of water for flushing toilets, washing dishes, and drinking if need be.

Newspapers are good to soak up water with. You don’t want to clean up water that may seep into the house with towels because if there is no power for prolonged periods you have no way to wash and dry wet towels. Newspapers are easily cleaned up and can be thrown away.

Do laundry and wash dishes before the storm hits. When the power goes out you don’t want piles of dirty dishes or clothing to deal with and charge up all your electronic devices before the power goes off (power may be out for weeks).

  •  Fill your car with gas and have cash on hand because ATM’s will not work.
  •  Stock up on can goods and make sure you have a manual can opener.
  •  Batteries, flashlights, candles, and lanterns are a must have.
  •  A good cheap way to keep clean without power is to take wet washcloths, put a little soap on them, and seal them in zip lock bags...homemade handi-wipes.
  •  If you are on medication, get your scripts filled before the storm.
  •  Don’t seal your car windows up airtight. When the pressure drops your window’s can implode.
  •  Keep extra pair of shoes under the bed in case power goes out and your windows blow out. You don't want to be walk around in the dark barefoot looking for your shoes.

Pet owners also don't forget to stock up on food and water for your pets too!

Mountain House Breakfast Skillet 10 Can Review

I opened up a can of the Mountain House Breakfast Skillet (scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and peppers).  It was really good.  It would make a really great breakfast burrito.

Now I have 8 more serving left in the can (10 servings per can).

If you like eggs and sausage with hash browns, then you should like this a lot.
The eggs are big and fluffy and made extremely well and tasted just like a fresh egg should right after being made.

The sausage is juicy and tender and has a nice blend of spices in it that makes the overall meal more filling.

Also want to add that I Just had 2 servings of the breakfast skillet. The can was opened 20 days ago and the food is still fine.

The can has been setting in my den all this time at 72 degree regular room temperature.

Got two servings left in the can.

Update: the final 2 servings after 20 days of being opened. The food still tasted fine after re-hydrating it.

Mountain House Chili Mac with Beef (2 serving) Review

I Had the Mountain House Chili Mac with Beef for lunch at work today.  It was just like eating a fresh bowl of chili, but with some macaroni thrown in. I think the macaroni was just for filler, couldn't really taste it.  It tasted like a good bowl of chili. Lots of ground beef, beans, tomato sauce, etc.

having some corn bread on the side would have been really good with that one...  Also, could have poured that dish over some more macaroni or over some spaghetti to stretch it out more if needed.  You could also pour it over rice, like regular chili.

It didn’t have any negative side effects. But I did notice that after I ate the pouch of food, that I was full, and stayed full for about 3 hours. Then I got hungry, really hungry, right after. It was a Really Odd experience going from full to really hungry in a few minutes.
All in all it’s a really good product and I would buy it again.

Mountain House Pouch of Chicken Ala King (2 Serving) Review

So I had a Mountain House Chicken Ala King pouch. The quality was very good, tender chicken and noodles and veggies.  Flavor wise it is one of the better dishes.

Down side is it had too much salt.  When I eat too much salt I sometimes get a headache a couple hours later, and that happened.  So I like it but likely won't buy them very often if at all in future.
